Birdhouse project in Finland reaches record numbers

A Birdhouse project in Finland, which sought to get citizens to construct homes for their feathered friends, broke record numbers.

Finland had seen depleting populations of native birds and, in a bid to get them back, the birdhouse project was set up.

A lack of hollow trees and deforestation, combined with growing residential and commercial development, has attributed to the decrease in bird numbers.

The response to the project was overwhelming. It was expected that maybe a few thousand extra birdhouses would be constructed.

Over 1.3 million were registered.

Want to do something like this in your own back yard? It’s so easy, and hugely rewarding.

Birdhouses are surprisingly simple, and inexpensive, to make. There are basic versions which can be built for just a few bucks!

In fact, here are 23 different varieties which you can print out and make today!
