Disney company donate $1 million to Orlando shooting victims

The Disney corporation has made a $1 million donation to a fund which was established to assist the victims of the Orlando shooting.

The horrific incident, which occurred in the Pulse nightclub last weekend, has brought the world together in support of the victims, whilst simultaneously examining LGBTQ treatment within the community, and raising associated issues. The OneOrlando Fund has already received millions of dollars in support, but the recent donation by Disney pushes the funds even further.  Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts made the following statement:

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”

According to a recent report in Variety:

Disney said it has been working with public agencies in Central Florida to provide support to those impacted by the shooting. The company set up five locations around its resorts for employees to donate blood to victims. The company is also providing rooms to families and friends of those caught up in the massacre.

With the fallout still taking place, it is disheartening to hear that this tragic event has actually allowed senior politicians to loosen gun laws in certain States. It’s going to take a lot of work until the mindset of arming an entire community as a good thing is readdressed.
