Elon Musk has achieved a great deal in his lifetime. He invented PayPal, popularized the electric car, has made a sustainable home energy source and has even created Space X a way in which regular people may experience the world from above. Now he wants to change the way we use air travel and, of course, it’s a far more ecologically sound version than the one we’re using right now. Musk plans to build a fully electric plane which lifts off vertically; a concept he announced at the Hyperloop Pod Award Ceremony on Jan 30th.
At the award ceremony in Texas, which was won by a team from MIT, Musk made a statement referring to how he was toying with the idea of introducing a vertical lift electric plane, in a bid to reduce the endless emissions created by commercial jets which perpetually litter the skies.
It was EndGadget who first broke the story, with Musk making the comments during a surprise Q&A section:
“I have been thinking about the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) electric jet a bit more. I think I have something that might close. I’m quite tempted to do something about it. Aircraft and ships, and all other modes of transport, will go fully electric — not half electric, but fully electric.”
