Klean Kanteen Straws change everything – Product Focus

Klean Kanteen are a company on a mission; to get us to reduce our use of disposable plastics.

The Klean Kanteen range includes canteens (as suggested by their name) and plastic alternatives for food storage and on-the-go accessories.

Klean Kanteen straws are an innovative and common sense alternative to plastic straws, of which Americans throw out 500 million per DAY! That’s an astonishing figure and what most people don’t realise is that many of those straws are not biodegradable.

We picked up a pack to see if they could help to curb the use of plastic within our busy family home. The change was almost immediate. It helped to emphasise just how many straws we were using, for smoothies, drinks and, I’m ashamed to say, even water. It was by making this simple change that suddenly, the guilt of using plastic straws was completely lifted and several weeks later, they are now a permanent part of our everyday lives. We use them at home, we travel with them and we can’t see ourselves using anything else.

The #BringYourOwn movement is one which hopes to show people how they don’t need to use plastic straws and hopes to enforce business and restaurants to follow their lead.

The potential of #BringYourOwn is looking good too, as posted on the Klean Kanteen site:

The good news is that the movement to kick plastic straws is gaining momentum in the U.S. On May 30th, New York City joined a growing list of cities and states to propose anti-plastic straw legislation. The following day, food service company Bon Appétit announced it’s removing plastic straws from all of the company’s 1,000 cafes. Klean is excited to support this groundswell by offering a reusable alternative to plastic straws. Join the movement.’
