Natural and Pantry Friendly Face Masks

With seasons changing, and summer sun being substituted with autumn winds and rains, there is one part of our bodies that is constantly exposed to the elements of nature – our face. Hence it is important to take care of our faces in a gentle and natural manner, so the skin can naturally regenerate and keep you glowing. And what a better way to do that, than to put on a face mask and kick back and relax.

You don’t have to rush to the shop to get your next face mask, all you have to do is go into your kitchen and look around, I guarantee that at least one of these four face masks you will be able to find within your kitchen. What is even better, you can mix and match these face masks, the combinations I am showing you below are the ones that I like best. Don’t have nutmeg, just put honey on your face; don’t have coconut milk, put coffee on by itself or mix it with honey or maybe oat milk, see what works best for you. As with all the natural ingredients, be careful and check the sensitivity of your skin, coffee can seem harsh and cause redness for some. The main thing to remember about pantry face masks – experiment and see what works for you.

In addition after washing off my face mask, I love to mist my face with rosewater or neroli water, and only then continue with my usual skin routine.

Coconut Oil + Baking Soda

Coconut oil and baking soda is something new to me, I do like to put coconut oil in my hair, but never thought to put it on my face, never mind the baking soda, that I use to clean my kitchen sink and drain. So when I discovered that you can combine both to get rid of blackheads and effectively clear your pores, I had to try it. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal; it is rich in antioxidants and healthy acids, as well as Vitamins C and E. This oil conditions and hydrates the skin, leaving it smooth and soft.

Result: This face mask gets rid of dead skin cells and cleanses pores, and as a result it leaves your skin brighter and fresher looking.

Use coconut oil and baking soda in ratio 1:1, if you have sensitive skin try 2:1. Wash off with warm water and finish it up with cold, to improve the blood circulation.

Coffee + Coconut Milk

I have been using coffee grounds as a body scrub for ages, it always leaves my skin and body invigorated, plus I love the smell of coffee. I rarely used it on my face as grounds can seem a bit rough, so be really gentle when you are massaging this mask onto your face. Coffee is rich in antioxidants, it helps to protect your skin from premature aging, and it has stimulating properties, hence it improves blood flow, leaving your skin bright and luminous. Coconut milk is rich in copper, which helps to reduce the appearance of age spots, it also contains Vitamin C, that helps to maintain elasticity of the skin, and it is a great moisturiser with soothing properties.

Result: This is a fantastic face mask during the harsher autumn and winter months, it always leaves my skin smooth and rehydrated. Due to the stimulating properties of coffee I prefer to use it in the morning, rather than evening.

Use coffee and coconut milk in the ratio 1:1, wash it off with cold water, while gently massaging your skin to exfoliate any dead skin cells from the face. You can read more about this faces mask on The Nosh Life Blog.

Raw Honey + Ground Nutmeg

This came as a recommendation from my sister. I had been using honey on my face quite a lot, especially when I notice breakouts, and then after a recommendation I started adding nutmeg, to help to exfoliate my skin. It changed everything. Raw honey is rich in antioxidants, it has antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and it can reduce redness and puffiness of the skin, as well as help it heal faster. Plus, it deeply moisturises your skin and brightens your skin complexion.

Results: Nutmeg helps to exfoliate skin, leaving it smooth and soft; honey deeply moisturises and brightens skin, leaving it supple and clear. It is a great face mask, especially when you know that you have a long day ahead, you can put it on for 5 to 10 minutes in the morning, and it will be a game changer, your skin will look fresh and well hydrated throughout the day.

Use honey and ground nutmeg in the ratio 2:1, gently massage it onto skin and wash it off with warm water, finishing with cold water.

Raw Cacao + Raw Honey

Probably one of my favourite face masks, the smell is so good and you don’t have to be afraid if some of it ends up in your mouth. We all know that cacao is a mood booster, and it is also rich in antioxidants, contains iron and magnesium, and it is also anti-inflammatory. When applied on skin cacao improves blood circulation, reduces signs of aging, soothes redness, reduces blemishes and gives your skin a rosy glow.

Results: It leaves my skin glowing, supple, soft and super hydrated. And the smell of cacao lingers in the air for quite some time, which always leaves me smiling.

Use honey and cacao in the ratio 1:1 or 2:1, make sure that you are using raw honey and raw cacao powder to reap the best benefits of this face mask. Wash off with warm water and finish off with cold.
