The outgoing President of the USA is ensuring that his legacy will be a positive one.
In the last week alone, Barack Obama has made some grand and momentous gestures.
Obama’s good deeds include donating his daughters swing set to a local homeless charity.
As reported first by CNN, the Rainbow brand swing set was installed in March 2009, on the family’s first spring in the White House.
Obama’s daughters Sasha and Malia, who were 7 and 10 years old at the time, were surprised with the two-tiered, multi-swing playset when they came home from school.
As the Obama’s leave the White House, the elaborate swing set has been donated to the Jobs Have Priority Naylor Road Family Shelter. Barack and Michelle paid the shelter a visit on Martin Luther King day, to see some of the local kids enjoying their new toy.
This was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of Obama’s good deeds, however. The big news broke a few hours ago, when it was announced that the President had overruled his secretary of defense to commute the sentence of former Army soldier Chelsea Manning.

Chelsea, then known as Bradley Manning, was sentenced to 35 years in prison for leaking classified documents relating to the Middle Eastern conflict. The trans woman will be released this coming May. The news has been celebrated by her many celebrity advocates and supporters.
THANK YOU President Obama for commuting the prison sentence of Chelsea Manning!!! She will be released in May – instead of in 2045!! THANK U

Though found guilty on 20 out of 22 possible charges (including violating the US Espionage Act), Manning was not convicted of the most serious one; aiding the enemy, which could have earned the private a life sentence.
Instead, the former intelligence analyst was sentenced to prison, as well as demoted from private first class to private and dishonorably discharged.
Nancy Hollander, an attorney for Manning, told CNN the former soldier has been “nervous the last few days” as she waited for word in the closing days of the Obama administration. Hollander said she only learned of the commutation around the time Obama made the announcement.
“She knows she’s going to be free,” Hollander said. “She can start her life.” (Source – CNN)
In a final act of defiance, Obama has pledged €500 million to fight climate change, despite incoming President Donald Trump’s vow to “Cancel Global Warming Payments”
— Department of State (@StateDept) 17 January 2017
The State Department announced Tuesday that it will send the money to the U.N.’s Green Climate Fund, which helps developing nations shift to cleaner energy and adapt to climate change.
The move comes three days before the inauguration of a president who pledged days before his election victory to “cancel billions in global warming payments to the United Nations” and devote funds instead to “environmental infrastructure” at home.
The $500 million is the second transfer to the Green Climate Fund, whose aim is to help developing countries reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to occurrences blamed on climate change such as rising sea-levels and drought.
President Obama pledged $3 billion to the GCF over four years, and a first instalment, also $500 million, was paid last March. (Source – CNS)
As his scandal-free double term comes to an end, Barack Obama will be leaving his post on the right side of history. His actions do the talking in this regard.
From all of us, without a hint of irony, “Thanks Obama”.
