Rap and Hip Hop are often associated with negative imagery, behaviour and morals, but and coming internet sensation, Prince Ea, is using his lyrical prowess to spread a message of great importance.
Through his YouTube channel, Prince Ea provides a mixture of direct-to-camera pieces on a range of topics from self motivation to environmentalism, as well as creating a regular stream of outstanding, thoughtful music videos. He is also the founder of the Make SMART Cool movement (Sophisticating Minds And Revolutionizing Thought), a socially-conscious startup which plans to: “promote intelligence to everyone, everywhere and integrate it with hip-hop. To create and nurture, without discrimination or preference, a community of free-thinking individuals under the singular purpose of promoting the ideals of education, intelligence, unity and creativity throughout the world at large.”
One of the most poignant is Can We Auto-Correct Humanity?, an examination of the distance which technology can create, despite having the appearance of connecting the world.
Prince Ea lays down some harsh truths for us all in Dear Future Generations: Sorry, in which our own short-sighted destruction of the planet is explained to a generation who never got to experience the abundance of natural wealth which is intently destroyed on a daily basis.
Environmentalism is a subject that is continued in MAN vs. EARTH, a video which contextualises our place amongst this great earth.
With such intellect and foresight, it’s inevitable that this 27-year-old rapper is destined for great things; provided he is given the platform he requires. Thankfully, with his last few videos going viral, it seems that there is an audience out there who are eager to hear what he has to say; with some luck, we’ll start acting upon his message, as opposed to simply acknowledging it.
