It’s hard not to love Justin Trudeau. In a world where most politicians are being replaced by Lovecraftian monsters, he remains a bastion of normalcy and humanity.
Yesterday proved to be no exception. In a trade meeting with Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny, Trudeau discussed the commercial futures of the respective countries.
All of this seemed to be standard enough, with no exciting developments to report.
That was until people noticed Trudeau’s socks.
Wait a minute. What are those? We need to take a closer look.
Now it makes sense. The socks, which were emblazoned with C-3PO and R2-D2, the robotic comedy duo from the Star Wars movies, were being worn in tribute to a very special day; May 4th.
In recent years, May 4th has become ‘Star Wars Day‘, due to its resemblance to the iconic catchphrase ‘May the Force be with you.’ (May the fourth / May the Force – get it?).
Trudeau has definitely earned his geek points with this pair, and he even took to social media to show them off.

He wasn’t the only one to get excited about them either. Twitter and Instagram went into a frenzy at the revelation of the designer accouterments, which can be found through sock company Stance.
Every year Star Wars Day gets bigger and bigger, with worldwide events and promotions taking place. You can track yesterday’s events by using the hashtags #MayThe4thBeWithYou, #StarWarsDay and #MayTheFourthBeWithYou
