Quentin Blake re-imagines Roald Dahl’s Matilda at 30

Quentin Blake is an iconic British illustrator whose work remains beloved by generations who grew up marvelling at his scratchy, expressive style.

It was with the works of Roald Dahl which Quentin Blake became synonymous. His illustrations of The Twits, The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and countless others have adorned the shelves of millions of children all over the world for decades.

While Dahl sadly passed away in 1990, Blake is still both prolific and active at the age of 85. This week, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Matilda, Blake unveiled a range of new sketches imagining the titular character at the age of 30.

Blake has imagined some of the careers which Matilda might have taken.

The book loving little girl who inspired a genuine love of reading in her fans can be seen as a librarian, a scientist and an explorer.

More examples can be found at Quentin Blake’s official website.

It was also shown recently that bookworms live longer, so what are you waiting for? Make sure to pop into a local bookshop or library today.
