It is with the utmost sadness that we can confirm our beloved co-founder Ulli Lommel has passed away.
Ulli Lommel was one of the primary driving forces behind My Good Planet.
A hugely successful actor, filmmaker, dreamer and raconteur, it was partly Ulli’s vision to create a place where the goodness and light in the world was celebrated.
That vision became My Good Planet, a project upon which he worked tirelessly with his close collaborator Colin McCracken to develop, promote and share. In Ulli’s eyes, the world needed more love, and he was always creating it; whether it be through his nurturing of young talent, or in his masterful style of creation. He felt disheartened when he witnessed the culture of division and confrontation which was taking place in the world, and was confident that My Good Planet would, one day, have a place in rectifying that.
Throughout his career, Ulli Lommel worked with almost too many greats to mention. His associations with Andy Warhol (with whom he made several features), Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Frank Sinatra, Truman Capote, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and many more were charted in his Autobiography, Tenderness of the Wolves (also the name of one of his early films). He had been in the process of editing a final cut of a documentary which told the My Good Planet story when he passed away suddenly on December 2nd in Germany.
My Good Planet would not exist without Ulli Lommel and, in tribute to his achievements, it is the intention of us all to continue to share his dream and to pursue his goals.
We will, however, miss him terribly and this world will never be the same without him.
Safe travels, Ulli. We hope that everything is magic where you are.
